What we do

Our Projects

Our programs and projects empower youth to become change-makers, fostering creativity, resilience, and hope for a better tomorrow. Together, we can create lasting change.

1. Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV)

Foundation of Hope – Kibera is committed to addressing gender-based violence within the Kibera community. Our girls’ shelter provides a safe and secure environment for survivors aged 6-18, offering a place of refuge, healing, and empowerment. We focus on providing comprehensive support that includes access to education, counseling, and life skills training to enable survivors to rebuild their lives. Through community outreach, we raise awareness about the impact of GBV and advocate for preventive measures. Collaborating with local stakeholders, we work to create an ecosystem of protection and support for vulnerable girls, ensuring they can escape cycles of abuse and achieve independence.

2. Education Support

Education is a critical tool for breaking the cycle of poverty. At Foundation of Hope – Kibera, we provide partial funding and linkages to support children and youth in accessing academic opportunities. This includes tuition assistance, provision of learning materials, and mentorship programs. Our focus is on enabling students to complete their education and pursue their dreams. By investing in education, we empower children to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to improve their lives and contribute meaningfully to society. This support is targeted at vulnerable individuals, ensuring that financial barriers do not limit their potential.

3. Home-Based and Social Support Programs

We provide home-based and social support to individuals and families facing significant challenges. This includes regular home visits to offer emotional and practical assistance, hospital outreach for patients in need of care, and community-based programs to foster resilience. These initiatives aim to address the immediate needs of vulnerable populations while promoting long-term stability. Our work ensures that those in crisis have access to the necessary support systems and resources to improve their circumstances.

4. Dance, Theatre and Fine Arts

Theatre and drama are powerful tools for social change. At Foundation of Hope – Kibera, we use performance, poetry, narratives, and plays to engage youth in meaningful conversations about critical issues. These artistic expressions serve as platforms to address themes such as gender equality, health, and resilience in a relatable and impactful manner. Through this program, we also nurture creativity and provide a voice for marginalized groups to share their stories, fostering awareness and understanding within the community.

5. Sports for Social Change

Sports bring people together and serve as a platform for social messaging. Our programs include football, volleyball, and netball, which are used to foster unity and disseminate thematic messages about health, equality, and empowerment. These activities engage young people in productive ways while promoting teamwork, discipline, and community awareness. Sports also provide an avenue for youth to develop life skills, build relationships, and contribute positively to their environment.

6. Environmental Conservation

Environmental conservation is vital for the health and sustainability of the Kibera community. Foundation of Hope – Kibera engages youth in cleaning rubbish, clearing drainage channels, and planting trees. These activities improve sanitation, reduce the risk of disease, and enhance the overall living environment. By involving young people in these initiatives, we instill a sense of responsibility and community ownership, contributing to a cleaner and healthier Kibera.
